Stephy Haik

French born and American bred, Stephy Haik is a cosmopolitan singer with a unique style bearing the many influences of her international upbringing. In demand on both sides of the Atlantic, she has performed and/or recorded with an impressively diverse roster of artists including Donna Summer, Malcolm McLaren, De La Soul, Dede Ceccarelli and Martin Solveig, to name a few.

Immersed in the world of jazz from an early age, Stephy Haik realized a childhood dream when she attended New York's LaGuardia High School Of Performing Arts (portrayed in the popular film and television series “Fame.”) Following the completion of her high school studies, she broadened her musical range by attending Manhattan School of Music. With the rigorous inter-disciplinary training she received, she was able to move with complete ease between styles ranging from R’n’B/Soul and Classical to Musical Theater and Jazz. In addition to collaborating with well-known artists, she has written and performed on various soundtracks and compilations, including the Elite Models compilation which was released by Pschent/Wagram worldwide.

Yet, Jazz has always remained her first love. Her live repertoire consists of original composition and standards , all reworked in her very own style . It is her unique phrasing, incredible generosity and great sensitivity that is displayed what the Village Voice called “a rare sense of sensitivity and sensuality.” She is currently recording songs for her first jazz album, to be released later this year , featuring an array of jazz greats.

Jazz legend Andre “Dede” Ceccarelli invited Stephy to perform on his all-star album, “Carte Blanche”,winner of the French "Victoire de la Musique"—which also features Didier Lockwood, John Mc Laughlin and Richard Galliano—to sing a cover of Lou Reed’s “Walk On The Wild Side.” Fueled by the popularity of her featured track, Stephy toured some of Europe’s largest jazz festivals with Ceccarelli, (joined by jazz greats Baptiste Trotignon, David El-Malek, Biréli Lagrène, Rémi Vignolo, Sylvain Luc, Florin Niculescu) : Banlieues Bleues, Parc Floral de Paris, Festival Django Reinhardt de Samois, Orléans Jazz Festival, Jazz à Vienne, Montreux Jazz Festival, Toulon Jazz Festival, Nice Jazz Festival, Jazz In Marciac…

Another exciting addition to Stephy’s busy schedule was her performances in Lambert Wilson’s musical “La Nuit Americaine”, dedicated to the great American composers of the last century. Directed by Helene Vincent, arranged by Regis Huby, the show toured more than a year in France (la Cite de la Musique a Paris, Chalon sur saone, Perpignan, Carcassonne, Theoules, Lyon, Chambery, Vallauris, Frejus and Lacoste )ending the French tour triumphantly in Paris' "Opera Comique".
The "Nuit Americaine" DVD and CD have been released on the label Chants du Monde.

Also, Stephy has recorded two single tracks on Martin Solveig's new album "C'est La Vie", released this fall, precedently having recorded on his last 3 albums.

Most recently, she has payed a tribute to Edith Piaf on the long awaited "French Tuesdays" album, composed and produced by Henri Scars Struck. Also with him, She also just finished performing on "Just Like Elixir", title that will appear on one of the biggest Dance compilations "Release Yourself" by Grammy Winner DJ Producer Roger Sanchez.

Most importantly, Stephy is recording her first jazz album in New york this winter.
It is after having met the very talented pianist/aranger Olivier Hutman that she decided that it was the perfect time to do it. It will have her own compositions as well as standards.
It will be out in 2009.... Yeah!
